This peaceful and attractive garden is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is just moments away from the city centre of Perth. Branklyn Garden was a private home developed by John and Dorothy Renton in the early 1920s. While the main feature is the two-acre garden, to home is also a source of wonder, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement.
Gardening was a passion for John and Dorothy Renton who wanted to create a space that could be home to all manner of rare and unusual plants that originate from many different parts of the world. They managed to achieve their wishes for their garden through Dorothy’s exceptional gardening skills and a collection of seeds by renowned plant hunters, George Forrest and Frank Ludlow.
From their extensive collection, the most admirable are the Himalayan poppies. The entire garden contains collection from countries like Tibet, China, Himalayas, and Bhutan. There is no denying that the complete collection is most impressive and will take your imagination for from Perth into far-reaching corners of the world. It is no surprise that this particular garden holds an immense attraction for botanists and gardeners from all over the world.
There is a café available at Branklyn Garden, so you can enjoy a pot of tea, coffee and freshly baked treats while admiring the view and relaxing in picturesque surroundings. It is quite simply astounding that there is such a relaxing haven just moments away from the bustling city and surrounded by an urban environment. In fact, the garden is a testament to what you can do in a relatively small space, surrounded by an urban environment.
National Trust members receive free entry while there is a charge for other visitors. Parking is also available at Branklyn Garden while there is also a gift shop filled with plants, gardening books and local produce.
